Week 21 (Acts 18) from "The Roots of Our Faith" series on the book of Acts.In the cosmopolitan city of Corinth, Paul "occupied himself with the Word" and "many believed in the Lord." In Ephesus, Apollos taught "accurately the things concerning Jesus" and Priscilla and Aquila helped him understand the way of God "more accurately."
It is the Gospel, plainly and accurately presented that is the power of God for salvation (Romans 1:16). For those who are perishing, it is foolishness but, for those God has called, it is the power and wisdom of God (1 Cor. 1:18, 24).
The Gospel cannot be improved. It is razor sharp and any attempts to sharpen it will, in the end, only dull it. Christ crucified is all the church has to offer and without it Christianity will become a religion - relying on works to justify.
We must see our world as one in need of the Gospel, not in need of methods that make life work, not in need of entertainment, but in need of Jesus. Accordingly we must, through wholehearted study of the Bible, grow in accuracy in the things concerning Jesus: Christ crucified, forgiveness through his death and new life and intimacy with God through his Spirit (Colossians 1:13-14).

ReplyDeleteYes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Uber excited that I found your blog! Because several of us Rockers blog. Of course, not as awesomely as you. Oh, and your message inspired me - ahem - I should say GOD inspired me to basically tell CSU admins that Christ was the solution to getting people to love their fellow student - not another diversity program (even though they do have merit). Anyway, yeah. Awesome message! Keep pressing on 4 God!
